Messaging… but on which media?

November 18th, 2008 par Youssef

In the real world, the marketer's answers are obvious : radio or TV commercial, billboard, mailing, advertisement in printed press ..., to such an extent that this question is often replaced by implementation concerns such as: creative axis, marketing & media mix ...

Conversely, on the Internet, the process often compares to a feverish gridlock of messages-in-a-bottle, thrown at sea, hoping for a safe and sound delivery. These days, popular bottles are named blog, Facebook group, MySpace profile, Twitter, widget, casual game ...

Palermo Project’s home page - Take Two

November 17th, 2008 par Youssef

After our joint efforts, with Bertrand (the ergonomist), had led us to the home page, I synced-up with our graphic designer: Cécile.

Although I had described to her our preliminary draft and explained the logic behind it, I asked her not to let our choices limit her creativity. I also gave her a few interesting examples as a source for her inspiration

After a few days, she sent back a new version that I'll let you discover...

The Palermo Project’s home page!

November 15th, 2008 par Youssef

Well, more accurately, its functional model. Beyond teasing (which is quite fair in buzz marketing), what I wish to present here is the method with which Bertand, the ergonomist of the team and myself have used to build this home page.

Is there a first mover advantage?

November 14th, 2008 par Youssef

This is a question that appears to be of strategic importance. Is it better to carefully observe a pioneer paving the way and then, if it looks promising, invest heavily to join him and surpass him or is it better to launch yourself with the belief that this first move will be difficult to catch up?

Entrepreneurship and Obama

November 13th, 2008 par Youssef

There is a certain joy to it that I see in him now. I just sensed from that point on that sort of incredible focus, energy, acuity, joy. He is into it.

A close associate of Barack Obama made these remarks when Obama was competing with Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. presidential elections.

Not taking sides here, but I like this quote. All things considered, this is precisely what I started to feel after the first few chaotic weeks of the project. It is a feeling of optimism, power, determination and unbelievable concentration, which leaves you in an intimate and dangerous state of belief that whatever happens, you will succeed.

There is a joy to being an entrepreneur that I never imagined and it is such a joy that, whatever the future holds for the project, I am pleased to have attempted it.

Web marketing and the Venice Carnival

November 12th, 2008 par Youssef

At its pinnacle, in the 18th century, some say that the Venice Carnival lasted for up to six months. During six months, tens of thousands of masked people came and went in the city! On the Internet, it seems to me that the marketing man is in a similar situation regarding his target, except that it is not masked all year long. We therefore understand his concern: where is it? What is it doing? How to reach it?

Three tools for a successful virtual conference

November 10th, 2008 par Youssef

We had an important meeting to organise between Cecile, the graphic designer, Jean Patrick, in charge of the development, and myself. Misunderstandings and incomprehension were patent considering the work done by Cecile, its technical translation done by Jean Patrick and, moreover, my vision of the final product.

The difficulty was two-fold. First of all, the distance. Cecile lives in the north of France, I live in Paris and Jean Patrick is at the moment in Cote d’Ivoire with his team. Second of all, I needed to represent my ideas and to share them real-time in order to discuss them.

What will be your turnover in three years time?

November 10th, 2008 par Youssef

Among the things that gave me a hard time during the elaboration of the business plan, financial projections ranked first. How to predict our costs and, above all, our receipts in three years time when our service is new and the market non-existent?
